Hello Everyone
✅ Good News from St Michael's Team 2 ✅ This week’s efforts saw 5 individuals at CHACE AVENUE POLICE STATION courtesy of St Michael's Team 2. Officers have been proactive arresting a male and a female for two separate residential burglaries and two males for two separate accounts of thefts. We have also managed to recover a stolen bike for a very pleased victim. In regard to crime prevention, officers are raising awareness by conducting high visibility patrols, target hardening, speaking to members of the community around the City Centre and Fargo. We have also visited various establishments across the city centre during the England football match.
We know that the misuse of e-bikes and e-scooters is growing concern for our communities. When these vehicles are unlawfully modified or used irresponsibly, they can pose a real risk to pedestrians, other road users, and the rider themselves. Our priority is keeping everyone safe. While legal and responsible use of e-bikes is perfectly acceptable, illegal adaptations and dangerous riding will not be tolerated. St Michael's Team 2 on a joint operation with Road Traffic and Coventry BID have seized five illegal E-Bikes in the city centre today as part of Neighbourhood Policing Week. One rider was also arrested for immigration offences.
The ins and outs of e-scooter and electric bike law… While certain electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs) can be used legally, they must meet strict requirements, including limits on power output and the need to be pedal assisted. To be legal it must: It is currently illegal to ride a privately owned e-scooter on public roads, pavements or cycle lanes in the UK. Under UK law, they are classed as motor vehicles. This means they require both a driving licence and insurance. The operation focused on tackling the illegal use of electrically assisted pedal cycles (e-bikes) and e-scooters, particularly those being used without insurance, or in an anti-social manner.
